Self-Guided Walking Holidays in the United Kingdom

We design self-guided walking holidays that enable the visitor to sample the countryside and the history of Britain. Our routes bring alive the descriptions of writers like William Wordsworth, Thomas Hardy, Boswell and Johnson. Visit places where Roman legions marched and fierce battles were fought. On every tour there is great historical interest as well as natural beauty. Most of the walks follow, at least in part, sections of the reasonably well maintained long distance paths or National Trails whose concept and history has origins in the Great Trespass Movement of the 1930’s. Dramatic scenery, castles, historic churches nestled amongst wild flowers, sleepy villages, sunshine and rain: these are all integral parts of walking in Britain.

Our self-guided walking holidays are fully flexible which means you can normally start your walk on any day during the season and customise by adding extra days for resting or sightseeing. As you're walking independently, you're free to follow the trail at your own pace. You set your own pace as you are not limited by the constraints of group travel.

You are free to shorten or lengthen your walk as the terrain permits and can even take a day off, although you may need to travel onto your next accommodation by taxi or public transport in order to do so. As long as you are reasonably active you will be able to find a suitable tour and all of our tours are graded to help you choose the right walk for you.

The United Kingdom is a great place for self-guided walking at any time of year. With a relatively mild climate, the coldest and wettest months are November to February.  Also - perhaps more importantly the days are much shorter. In March and October there's more daylight but temperatures are still cool. April to September are the warmer, drier months.
