Slovakia
is a mountainous state at the heart of Europe. Its beautiful mountains
cover almost one third of the land area and our treks here encompass three
of the most beautiful national parks of the country.
We commence with the Malay Fare range, perhaps the most beautiful in
Slovakia and a very well kept secret. They rise from the north of the Van
river and reach a height of 1709m at Vicky Craven. There are waterfalls,
rockeries, massive cliffs and deep valleys all covered with rich and rare
flora putting the finishing touches to this remarkable place.
The second area, known as ‘Slovak Paradise’ is full of beautiful
natural panoramas, magnificent valleys, canyons with ladders and cascades.
It offers stunning trekking possibilities. It is an area of natural beauty
and although its elevation is not particularly high (500-1700m),
negotiating the ravines along the walking trails is relatively demanding
and as such is a very popular activity.
The Tatra Mountains form the central, highest and most beautiful section
of the Carpathian mountain range. The Tartras National Park was Slovakia’s
first national park and is dedicated to conserving the unique ecosystems
found in these mountains. Over 25 of the peaks in the park reach heights
more than 2500m above sea level. A concentration of summits that can be
admired from mountain meadows gradually changing into deep coniferous
forests and mountain pines up to bare, skyscraping sheer rockfaces. The
High Tartras have all the giant mountain attributes - long valleys,
emerald mountain lakes, roaring waterfall, mountain torrents, high
mountain flora and fauna.
