Walking and Cycling Holidays in Cornwall

England’s longest and, many would say, finest trail is the 630 miles long South West Peninsula Coastal Path from Poole to Minehead, of which almost half is in Cornwall.

Cornwall is very much a holiday county with beaches, famous cornish pasties, pirates, shipwrecks and the roaring sea. It has been voted Britain’s favourite holiday region and for many good reasons. Of course there are many popular tourist centres that you pass through when walking or cycling in the region, but on the Cornish Coastal Path you can really escape the crowds, dipping in and out of coves and harbours and ascending beside dramatic cliffs, up to high viewpoints, along promontories and back down to expansive beaches which out of the high season can be all but deserted. The climate is mild and even in bad weather the coastal landscape perhaps becomes even more dramatic.

Walking Holidays In Cornwall

Sherpa Expeditions offers a number of week long walking holidays along our favourite sections of the South West Coastal Path.

  • Cornish Coastal Path (North): Padstow to St. Ives - 8 days
A beautiful part of the South West Coastal Path, this northern section undulates along the coast between the popular resorts of Padstow and St. Ives, visiting the surfer’s paradise of Newquay.
  • Cornish Coastal Path (West): St. Ives to Penzance - 8 days
This section of the Cornwall Coast path contains generally shorter days than either our Cornwall North and South tours, allowing you more time to spend in coves, on beaches, or up on the cliff moorlands.
  • Cornish Coastal Path (South): Marazion to Mevagissey - 8 days
Explore the most scenic and varied part of the Cornish coast, on either side of Lizard Head, the southern-most tip of mainland Britain.
  • Cornish Coastal Path: Padstow to Penzance - 13 days
Enjoy a stunning 106 miles/170 km walk along the Cornish Coastal Path. Dip in and out of coves and harbours, ascend beside dramatic cliffs to panoramic viewpoints, idle along promontories and explore the expansive beaches, which out of the high season, can be all but deserted.
  • Cornish Coastal Path: St Ives to Mevagissey - 14 days
This section of the South West Coast Path encompasses a vast array of coastal landscapes from the dramatic cliffs of Lands End, the impressive coves of Mullion and Kynance, famous resort towns such as St Ives & Penzance and smaller fishing villages.

Cycling Holidays in Cornwall

Sherpa Expeditions has designed a cycling holiday that helps you explore about two thirds of Cornwall, winding in and out of coves and bays. This ride tries to follow the quieter roads of Cornwall, parallel as much as possible with both the sea and the South West Coastal Path, offering an enormous wealth of coastal scenery. From rugged cliffs to sandy beaches, from sleepy coves to marsh, cape and headland. The cycle ride does not and cannot follow the coast path – that is a walker’s domain, and even if some of the trail could be cycled, there would be a lot of technical mountain biking. So we take the coastal roads as near as possible to the sea, and drop down to the coves and bays in places.

There is a lot of up and down cycling, none of the days are particularly long though and you will have a lot of time to dawdle and take in the scenery. Cyclists for this ride need to be fairly fit for the terrain and it can also be windy. With the longest day being only 50km, there is ample time to relax and take in your surroundings. In the evenings, enjoy the hospitality of your hosts in our specially handpicked B&Bs.
