Discover medieval hill top towns, olive groves and rustic
farm houses on foot
Umbria, one of Italy's smallest regions, is an exhilarating experience
with its breathtaking countryside vistas. Walk from ancient Assisi, the
birthplace of St Francis, through rolling countryside and quaint hilltop
towns where world‑famous handmade ceramics are produced. Imposing
monasteries and castles mark the landscape of this region. Visit the old
city of Perugia with its impressive architecture and Roman sites. Explore
Spello and follow the ancient route of Via Romea to Città della Pieve, a
red‑brick town on the border with Tuscany. The trail concludes in Orvieto
where car access into the city is prohibited in order to preserve the fragile
rocky plateau on which it stands. Evenings are spent in a combination
of comfortable hotels and agriturismo's specially chosen for their local
